Hello! Please introduce yourself, who are you and what sports/fitness routine do you play?

Hi, my name is Acacia Jade and I am a Sky Aerial and Vinyasa yoga teacher who has traveled the world training students to live the life of their dreams. My main focus is teaching teachers but I am happy to work with students of all levels. 

For me, yoga was the cure! I was depressed, addicted to drugs and in a pattern of self destruction until I found yoga and it gave me a sense of purpose and a healthy community for support. Now this is what I share with my students because I believe together we can lift each other up! 

In total I have been teaching for 16 years and I have been blessed to teach and train in Bali, Canada, United States, Mexico, UK, Thailand, India, Peru etc. I love teaching! Yoga is my passion and my favorite thing to see in my students is the light bulb moment. Pose for the first time or see the world from a new perspective.

How do you get ready to train for your sport/how do you train?

Let’s talk about Sky aerial yoga because it’s such a unique practice. Sky Aerial Yoga uses an aerial yoga hammock which is connected to the ceiling through two ropes and metal carabiners. Sky Aerial yoga can be practiced by anyone at any level. We have flow classes which are a long sequence that moves smoothly from postures on the floor to the air and back to the floor. We also do restorative classes which are meditative resting postures al done inside of the hammock. We have strength building Sky Core classes and Sky Aerial Acrobatics classes which is where we do the fancy stuff. Every class begins with a warm up and ends in a cool down with a story based on yoga philosophy which is weaved through to inspire you to take the yoga practice off of your mat and into your life.

After a workout/game, how do you recover your body? What do you do to get your body in shape? What type of diet do you eat?

After a Sky Yoga practice, recovery is rest. We recommend practicing no more than 6 days a week so the body has time to heal. Part of my personal recovery is regular massage treatments and eating a healthy balanced diet 

I eat everything! But I combine my foods in a specific way to gain maximum energy with minimal fat accumulation. Life is about enjoying the things you love and finding balance so this is the philosophy I follow also with food. A little peak at my nutrition secret… I eat animal proteins/fats with vegetables and carbohydrates with vegetables, vegetable proteins and vegetable fats so my body stays lean, strong and in balance 

How do you prevent injuries when you’re training? What type of stretches do you normally do? What’s your routine looking like?

I prevent injuries in many ways and my warm up depends on the postures I am progressing too. I always take care to warm up the spine in every direction which also helps to create space for the lungs. My personal routine is very acrobatic with lots of aerial suspensions tricks

If there was someone wanting to get to your level, what type of advice would you give them?

Find a great teacher! There are tons of content out on Instagram, YouTube and Tiktok but if you want to progress quickly there is nothing like having a highly experienced teacher with you online or in person to guide you. I am self taught and it took me way longer to figure the basics out. Take the super highway to progress and don’t follow my lead! Find a good teacher who can. Bring the best out of you. It’s worth the price!

How do you structure your day now? What projects are you busy with?

My days vary. I own a retreat center. I teach online private classes and in person classes. I also run teacher trainings several times a year. Plus I host several retreats a year in yoga and plant medicine work. Currently, I am working on releasing an online 50 hour level 1 Sky Aerial Yoga teacher training so you can learn to teach aerial yoga with me in your home and I am looking for spaces to open the first yoga studio in Tarapoto Peru. 

How has your journey on social media been like? Future plans?

My journey on social media has been up and down. I went through years of daily posting and after having my daughter who is now 3, I paused to focus on my family. I find it hard to share everything but I do see the value in selling programs through social media. I think I need a social media manager.

Anything else you would like to share?

Find the exercise routine that makes you smile and you will do it for the rest of your life. Training should be enjoyable not torture.
