Nutrition, Mindfulness and Fitness Journey of "Savannah Regensburger"

Hello, who are you and what sports/fitness routine do you play?

My name is Savannah Regensburger. My passion has always been nutrition and fitness. My day to day life includes yoga (Bikram, Vinyasa, Sculpt) and weight training at the gym. Yoga was a part of my recovery from a car accident and multiple traumatic brain injuries. I was an athlete my entire life. I played softball (pitcher, first base, and left field). When I was a senior in high school, I got into a car accident and was unable to continue playing softball throughout college. I was lost and did not know what to do. Yoga and nutrition absolutely saved my life. I was able to utilize food as medicine to build on my brain and build plasticity, but also yoga helped the range of back problems I had from the accident.

How do you get ready to train for your sport/how do you train?

I like to consider my yoga training as practice, not perfect. Every time that I am practicing yoga, it is a place that allows my mind and my body to feel strong and empowered. For yoga, all I need to practice is my mat and sometimes light weights for a sculpt class. When I go to the gym, I typically always have my gym back with a lint roller (dog hair while I workout drives me crazy), water bottle, resistance bands, and protein bars. I always have some type of bar with me to have after a workout.

After a workout/game, how do you recover your body? What do you do to get your body in shape? What type of diet do you eat?

I always always always drink water and have water with me. I focus on hydrating, getting sufficient and good sleep every night, and taking rest days when my body needs it. I focus on my intuition when it comes to working out and my eating/nutrition. I also prefer to workout in the mornings and focus on balancing weight lifting with yoga and stretching to promote health in my muscles and optimal oxygen use.

How do you prevent injuries when you’re training? What type of stretches do you normally do? What’s your routine looking like?

I utilize yoga as a primary method of training and also recovery and injury prevention. In combination with a whole-food plant-based diet, I focus on truly listening to my body and what it needs. Typically that is a combination and balance of weight training and yoga. Sometimes I will lean more towards yoga when my body or mind needs the environment more than the gym.

If there was someone wanting to get to your level, what type of advice would you give them?

The best advice I could give to someone is to listen to your own body and what it needs. I would also advise someone to do a wide range of physical activity in combination with a well-balanced diet to promote optimal health and performance. It is important to progressively overload your body, it is also very important to listen to what your body needs. By doing this, you can work towards a stronger physique while also keeping a strong mind.

How do you structure your day now? What projects are you busy with?

I currently wake up and go to yoga or to the gym first thing in the morning. Then I head home, have a protein smoothie, and work on homework or do work. I currently work remote, do social media, and am in school to become a dietitian. I also run my own blog and podcast which takes up most of the rest of my time but it is one of my favorite current projects!

How has your journey on social media been like? Future plans?

My social media journey began in Colorado after I graduated college. I began my blog and started learning about social media and how it worked. I then moved to San Diego and continued to share about my experience as a yoga instructor, yogi, fitness, and my passion with nutrition and the brain-gut connection.
