Get in Shape with Ambassador "Rachael Kent"

Hello, who are you and what sports/fitness routine do you play?

Hi I’m Rachael.

My routine involves daily training at F45 where I became an ambassador last year. I joined three years ago and absolutely love it, mainly because of its variety with something different every day. There's cardio one day, then there’s resistance the next with no two sessions the same. The trainers are really encouraging and it’s ‘team training, life changing’ motto really is true!

How do you get ready to train for your sport/how do you train?

I wake up, drink water and I don't eat before I train -  I know a lot of people do but it just doesn't work for me so I just get up and get going...there’s always a warm up session in the class so it’s key to do this to get ready for training.

Because F45 is class based, I don't have to worry about other people using equipment - it’s set up for us! There will be such a variety from body weight to dumbbells/kettlebells and then cardio rowing machines/bikes.

After a workout/game, how do you recover your body? What do you do to get your body in shape? What type of diet do you eat?

I train daily and it’s possible to do this because each session is different - we wouldn't be working the same muscles two days in a row so there is time to recover.

In terms of after a session, It’s very very important to stretch and I've learned over the last years how important it is for your recovery the next day.. I don't particularly like yoga, but I would try and do it once a week or at least a stretch session. It’s even more key when I'm going every day to cool down and restore the muscles.

For food, I follow weight watchers religiously. I have the treats and what I love and still drink but it's balanced out with fruit, vegs, chicken and a lot of eggs. Of course there are days that are better than others but on the whole, it's a healthy balanced diet.

How do you prevent injuries when you’re training? What  type of stretches do you normally do? What’s your routine looking like?

In terms of stretches, I don't really follow a yoga program. I just make sure that from head to toe, I feel stretched. The way I think the task is done is when you stretch something out and feels good rather than painful. If I stretch my arm and feel the pain down, then I would continue to stretch it until I feel like it’s more comfortable. And that’s kind of my routine.

If there was someone wanting to get to your level, what type of advice would you give them?

For the last few years, my body composition has completely changed. My body fat percentage has reduced quite a lot, my body shape is completely different and I am  stronger!

I’d literally say to anyone starting out, progress not perfection. Everyday, you can add a bit to your routine or lift a heavier weight, or go for a longer run, or push yourself. Not every training day’s gonna be perfect, there gonna be times where you think that is not your best work out but you will always be lapping the person on the couch, and something is better than nothing. I think little steps get you to the big ones. It’s not thinking about where you want to be in a year, but think about what you want to do in the next week and next month, taking it every day as it comes.

How do you structure your day now? What projects are you busy with?

In terms of what I do, I always include workouts in my daily routine.. I work in marketing and that’s quite a busy job. I just make sure that I always have time for myself, to work out, to see my friends, to read. You've always got to make that time and to me the endorphins come from getting a sweat on and moving my body.

How has your journey on social media been like? Future plans?

I simply joined Instagram with healthy hoots in 2018 to keep myself accountable for weight loss and fitness journey and I hadn’t done social media before that really. I just did it for my exercise and journey but it’s been great over the years to be able to inspire other in terms of  weight loss and fitness.

I’m training to be a PT at the moment and going forward, I have no plans as such but it’ll just be more of the food and fitness content, sharing my balanced lifestyle.
