Body Basics of "Igor Anic"

Hello, who are you, and what sports/fitness routine do you play?

Hi, my name is Igor Anic. I’ve been a professional Handball player for the last 15 years. I’m 34 years old and I’m a former French national player, world and European champion. I’m currently living and playing in Nagoya, Japan.

How do you get ready to train for your sport/how do you train?

Because I’m closer to the end of my professional career than the beginning, my routine is more about maintaining my condition and my health. So, I’m trying to do the things I wasn’t the best at while younger, like eating healthy, drinking a lot of water, stretching on daily basis at home while watching tv, and overall trying to take care of my aging body.

After a workout/game, how do you recover your body? What do you do to get your body in shape? What type of diet do you eat?

After 15 years in the pro game, my joints, especially my knees are not the same anymore so I need to take care of them by icing, stretching right after the game, and drinking as much fluid as possible (BCAA, protein shakes…)

I try to eat superfoods, I don’t especially like avocados but I try to eat a lot of them since they are really healthy (for example).

How do you prevent injuries when you’re training? What type of stretches do you normally do? What’s your routine look like?

Since my sport is a sport with a lot of contacts and hard fouls and falls, you just sometimes cannot prevent injuries! But, the one thing that is in my power and control, I do a lot of warming up before the actual warm-up. I like to use elastic bands to do different exercises useful to my sport to get moving and ready.

After practice I usually do short (15 seconds) stretches and then at home I do longer ones. The stretching part of my body I do most is the hamstrings, quadriceps, hips, and lower back.

How has your journey on social media been? Future plans?

I like to share my life and experiences on social media, I use Instagram but most especially YouTube where I share my journey about moving to Japan, living on the other side of the earth, and all the challenges my family and I are facing with coming from France and now living in Japan.

Anything else you would like to share?

In these trying times, life can be hard and the motivation can be really low, I wish everyone reading this to stay healthy and to find motivation even in the hardest times. Stay kind to one another and be willing to give back, that’s how we can keep moving forward and be happy.

Knowing what you know now, what do you wish you could tell yourself 10 years ago?

I would teach myself how to become disciplined and that this one thing can be life-changing. And also to not let my emotions dictate my life decisions but rather to stay cool and stay positive, always.

Common question for beginners:

"How long does post workout recovery last?"

After a relatively light workout, your muscles may be able to recover in 24 hours, whereas a more challenging workout might take two to three days. Very intense workouts might take even longer.

Cold compression wrap is the perfect solution to relieve swelling & reduce inflammation. They're safe, effective, and easy to use. You can wear them on your ankle, knee, elbow, calf or thigh depending on which part of your body is injured.

This is designed to help reduce swelling and pain while also speeding up recovery time, so you can get back out there faster than ever before! It's not just an amazing product, but also an incredible experience that will change how you think about treating injuries forever!
